Teens damage cars

GARDAI are to step up patrols in the Caherdavin area for Halloween, following widespread vandalism of cars.  
A group of young teens damaged matchgoers’ cars at the Gaelic Grounds last Saturday.
Councillor Cormac Hurley described attacks on visitors vehicles as ”more than sickening”.

 

“I have been told that there was a gang of between 15 and 20 teens marauding around the place.
“Almost every second car parked along the New Link Road up as far as Brookfield Avenue was damaged.
“Windscreen wipers were ripped off and wing mirrors were broken outside the Girls National School in Caherdavin”.

A passer-by told the Limerick Post that car owners were shocked when they returned to done to vehicles.
“It’s depressing when you do your best to build up the image of the city following such a fantastic spectacle of sport,” said the Fine Gael councillor.
“People told me you could hear this gang during mass at 7.30pm.

Cars in Glenmore, off of the Old Cratloe Road, and outside the Community Centre, were also damaged.
A spokesperson for Mayorstone Garda Station confirmed there is a problem in and around the area with vandalism.
“The matter is being investigated… we have identified some of those who may have been involved
“We believe these youths come from across Caherdavin and Moyross”.

A patrol car was dispatched to respond to an incident in Caherdavin on Saturday night but the youths had fled.
No official reports were made to Gardaí.
“Anyone whose vehicle may have been damaged can still come forward to report the incident,” added the Garda spokesperson.
