Mixed fortunes for Limerick

-

A week maybe a long time in politics, but not as long of course as a year in sport. This time last season the Limerick hurlers could not buy a win, while their football playing brothers were preparing an onslaught on the league which ended with a national title.

With two rounds played in this year’s campaign, the reverse has occurred. The Limerick hurlers under Donal O’Grady have two wins from two under their belt, while the footballers are 0-2 in Division three of the National Football League.
The footballers will have a chance to amend that stat this weekend as they take on Offaly in Newcastlewest. Kick off is at 2.30pm on Sunday. The loss last weekend in Waterford for Limerick was a poor once. The scoreline of 2-8 to 0-8 does Limerick justice. The Treatymen were outplayed for large parts of the game as they struggle to make an impression up front.
Injuries are proving to be a knock back for Limerick football. The squad at present does not look to be as strong as last season, but that may all change come championship time. After all, this crop of players were only one kick of a ball away from beating Cork last season.
On the hurling front, Limerick have a break until March 6. Donal O’Grady’s men’s next outing is away to Down on Sunday week.
With two from two against Clare and Westmeath, Limerick sit atop of the Division two table. A nice sight indeed.
On a final GAA note, the Dr Harty Cup Final this Sunday will be streamed live on the Munster GAA website. Commentary will be by Mal Keaveny. Also, Limerick’s Live 95fm will carry coverage with Liam Aherne.
