A NUMBER of Fine Gael councillors have urged Limerick City and County Council to write to Taoiseach Micheál Martin, and their own party leader, Tánaiste Simon Harris, to formally request that a Limerick City Taskforce be created.
The proposal from Fine Gael councillors from across the city’s districts, Cllr Olivia O’Sullivan, Cllr Daniel Butler, Cllr Dan McSweeney, Cllr Sarah Kiely, and Cllr Peter Doyle, was presented at the April monthly meeting of the Metropolitan District.
With similar taskforces already established in other major cities across the country, including in Dublin and Cork, the local Fine Gael members believe its now time Limerick got a taskforce to help rejuvenate the city centre and make it a more desirable location for people to live, work, do business, and visit.
Cllr Olivia O’Sullivan, who represents Limerick City North, told the meeting: “As Ireland’s third city, it is now Limerick City’s turn to have a taskforce created by Government with mandated actions specific to Limerick City and our unique challenges.”
Cllr Daniel Butler supported Cllr O’Sullivan’s comments, pointed out that the taskforce in Dublin seems to be working well and, after Cork, he believes its now time Limerick was considered as the next stop.
