Hurlers face Down as Footballers struggle

-

AS the county’s senior hurlers head to Down for a national hurling league encounter this Sunday, they find themselves in the complete opposite form of their footballing counter parts.
Donal O’Grady will bring his charges to Portaferry this Sunday, (throw in 1.30pm, Live on Live95fm) looking to make it three wins from three in the National Hurling league.
The Limerick footballers are three from three already in the National football league, but unfortunately for Maurice Horan and Co., it is three losses from three.

Even though the footballers loss last weekend was in a tight game against Offaly, Limerick should still be expected to win those kind of games.
As it looks now, Limerick will have a battle on their hands to stay in Division three of the league. A disappointing start indeed, following victory in and promotion from Division four last season.
It may be doom and gloom at present for the footballers, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Injuries to key players are finally coming to an end and with games against Cavan (at home on the March 13), Louth (away on the March 20) and Westmeath (home on April 3), Limerick will fancy their chances of getting enough points in those games to avoid the drop.
On the hurling front, Limerick face Down on Sunday, in what should be an away win.
However, if you have ever travelled to Portaferry for a game then you know what a trek it is. The travelling alone will be an unsettling effect.
O’Grady’s men will have their work cut out for them. Down, have played two and won one so far. Table toppers Limerick will be everyone’s favourites, but with players returning from Fitzgibbon Cup and Football commitments, all will not be easy. That and the panel are still coming to terms with the style of play that O’Grady is looking to implement.
The Cork coach has already warned fans not to get too carried away and that there will be no “cricket scores” this season in Division 2.
Three from three will do.
