Seneca on course with Pledge Music

LIMERICK band Seneca has until Saturday, March 12 to raise the final 14 per cent of the total pledges of money needed to complete the recording and release of its second album. In a novel new way for music fans to get directly involved with their favorite artists,

Pledge Music (www.pledgemusic.com) offers fans the opportunity to fund their favourite band or solo artist’s new album. In effect, the fan becomes the record label for the band.
Bands such as Cornershop and Cast have used Pledge Music recently to raise funds for their projects. For Seneca’s new album project the total amount to be raised is set at €8,250 and it is essential that the band’s pledges reach this amount. As lead singer Rob Hope explains, ”We don’t get a penny unless we reach 100 per cent, basically when you pledge, nothing is taken from your credit card until we reach 100 per cent.”
Anyone who makes a pledge of €10 will get a digital download of the new CD but by pledging a little more fans can get personalised items from the band. A signed 1st and 2nd Singles and the new CD is €40. A hand written lyric sheet and signed photo is €50. For €80 you get a CD copy of the album signed by Seneca and producer Noel Hogan from The Cranberries. This particular pledge has been particularly popular with the band’s American fanbase, “More than half the pledges have come from America”.
Since the release of the debut album, ‘Sweeter than Bourbon’, Seneca has toured the States four times so far. “In 2009 we were there for seven months, basically traveling the whole country, put up over 45,000 miles on our tourbus. We’ve played over 200 gigs in The US at this stage”.
The band is in the recording process for the new album now under the watchful eye of Noel Hogan of The Cranberries as producer. The money raised in pledge will go towards the studio time, mixing, mastering and all other costs associated with releasing album number two. The Pledge Music method allows Seneca to raise the funds it needs independently, Rob explains, “You can see that other bands such as Cast, bands who have been very big in the past are using Pledge Music because the best scenario is where you pay to make your own record, you have the freedom to do what you want as opposed to having a record label pay for it.”
To make a pledge to Seneca’s project go to www.pledgemusic.com and search for ‘seneca’. There you can follow the band’s progress on its way to receiving the fund of €8,250. You can check out some of the band’s back catalogue including the top 30 hit ‘Clarity’. You can also peruse the lengthy list of items available to pledge for, including a signed drum head from the last US tour plus a Thank You note (€100); a cover version of your choice recorded by Seneca (€600); be on the guest list for Seneca gigs for life (€850).  Unusually the list also includes Seneca’s first tour bus for a mere €2,000, a bargain no doubt but you will have to get yourself to California to pick it up!
