Fans forced to choose as ties clash

-

THE mind boggles sometimes, it really does. This weekend, Limerick GAA fans will have to decide between watching their beloved hurlers or thier beloved footballers as the NFL and NHL ties clash.
The hurlers take on Kerry at 1pm in Kilmallock on Sunday, while the footballers entertain Westmeath at 2.30pm in Newcastlewest. This setting of fixtures is truly baffling. The GAA are currently battling with a recession hit society as well as other popular sports.

To have a dual county such as Limerick at home on the same day at two different venues is madness. I know that the footballers are keen to play their game in NCW, but the GAA would not even allow Limerick to have one game at 1pm and another at 3pm. Truly, truly amazing.
So, the teams and the fans will have to prepare separately. The hurlers will be favourites to make it six from six as they take on Kerry, while the footballers will be looking for three on the bounce against the maroon and white of Westmeath.
It always looked likely that it will be a Limerick v Clare final to decide on promotion and nothing has changed to alter that position in the last few weeks.
In the football league, Only five points separate top (Wexford on eight points) from bottom (Cavan on three points). So a win on Sunday for Maurice Horan’s men could mean a significant jump in position for the now inform Shannonsiders.
