IT was great to see a massive crowd at the Gaelic Grounds last weekend for Limerick versus Wexford. There was some trouble getting into the ground, but thank God no one was hurt. The key to safety is to arrive early I suppose. Long may the big crowds last though.

The decision to have Limerick play two matches in one day is ludicrous. It makes no sense. Business-wise or sports wise it is madness to have a county’s fans split over two venues on the one evening.I know that the hurling qualifier had to be played in a neutral venue, but to be honest, the Parnell Park decision is going to annoy more Limerick fans than it would annoy Antrim fans, if the hurling was moved to Limerick. Why can’t the GAA bend the rules a little. Can they not take an overall view. Imagine a kid watching his county in hurling and football on the same night. Is it not all about the future and not the present rigid rules?
ANDY Lee announced this week that he will fight Bryan Vera again this Autumn. The Limerick boxer was in Germany helping Wladimir Klitschko prepare for this World title fight. The southpaw sparred with the World Champion to improve his agility. Speaking this week, Vera’s coach said, “It looks like Andy Lee is the only man tough enough to say to Bryan, as my great friend Mills Lane used to say, ‘Let’s get it on!’” October in Las Vegas appears the most likely for the bout.
THE Limerick intermediate hurling team will play Clare in the 2011 Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship Final on Wednesday July 13 at 7:30pm in Cusack Park, Ennis. The under 25 development squad will enter the game as favourites having dispatched a well fancied Waterford side in the semi final. Best of luck.
