Extensive flood damage at golf club premises

THE vacant Limerick County Golf Club at Ballyneety was hit by vandals this Monday night, resulting in extensive flood damage to the premises. Detectives at Roxboro Garda Station have launched an investigation after raiders ripped copper piping from the walls and ceilings of the now liquidated golf club. Shortly after 10.30pm on Monday, security staff disturbed the raiders who had gained entry and were attempting to take the copper piping and other materials.

The unoccupied building is just one of a number of closed premises throughout Limerick that have been targeted as raiders attempt to gather and sell on the materials scavenged from derelict or unoccupied sites.
With NAMA having moved into a number of sites around the country, Limerick is no different to this latest upsurge in thefts and burglaries that are evident elsewhere.
Limerick District Court has seen a number of such prosecutable cases where raiders have taken scaffolding from unfinished private housing estates, and gates from houses due for demolition under the regeneration scheme, with a view to selling it on.
Gardai are advising that all such property should be secured and regularly checked.
