LYT present Goethe’s fast paced dark classic

WITH a cast of 14 talented young actors, Limerick Youth Theatre will present Goethe’s ‘Faust’ at The Belltable for five nights from Monday August 22. Simon Thompson is directing this year’s production with a set which promises to be a “visual feast that will wow the audience”, according to Simon Thompson who recently established Orchard Theatre Company.

He says, “after 5 weeks of intense rehearsals this group of young adults has brought to life a classic period text. This play is fast paced, dark, funny and at times a little risky. The story of ‘Faust’ centres around Dr Faust an elderly man who has lost his zest for life and decides to sell his soul to the Devil for happiness and dare I say sex. Oh yes, they knew how to write a play back then.”
Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) is a company of young performers and theatre enthusiasts set up in 1997 with a vision of providing a unique opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to cross social and cultural divides through youth drama experiences.
This production of ‘Faust’ is the most lavish production that LYT has undertaken to date. It is a full period costume drama, with lots of costume changes and a specially designed stage set. Angie Smalis, Artistic Director of LYT added, ‘It is a privilege to have the opportunity to collaborate with a local director whose work is challenging, unique and of the highest standard. I always enjoy seeing the members of LYT gain huge experience as actors and grow in confidence over the course of the summer months.”
‘Faust’ will play at The Belltable from Monday August 22 until Friday August 26.
