Season Defining Derby

-

LIMERICK FC’s season appears to be getting back on track. The SuperBlues demolished Bray Wanderers last weekend 4-0 in the FAI Ford Cup and now they face Cork City to close the gap on second spot in the Airtricity First Division.

Limerick face their Munster rivals on Saturday night at 5pm in Turners Cross. With the game being moved to accommodate traffic in Cork, due to a Munster rugby game on that night, a large crowd is expected for this season defining fixture.
With just eight league games to go, Limerick know that a win in Cork on Saturday will set them up nicely for the run in.
Shelbourne currently lead the table on 53 points from 21 games. Limerick, Cork and Monaghan are making up ground on the Dublin side. Cork sit in second on 47 points from 22 games. Monaghan are in third on 46 from 21 games, while Limerick are in fourth on 44 from 22 games.
At this stage of the season, it looks as if Limerick will have to settle for a play off spot, but knowing Pat Scully and his determined side, the title is still not outside of their reach.
If last weekend’s cup win over Premier Division side Bray Wanderers is anything to go by, then Limerick could be just about to start a run which could end in a return to the top flight.
Limerick’s reward for their cup win was an away tie against Dublin based Sheriff YC. Sheriff YC FC is a north Dublin soccer club, formed in 1971. The tie is down for decision on the week ending September 18.
Limerick FC’s next home game is against Longford Town on Friday September 9. Kick off at Jackman Park is at 7.45pm.
