Explaining why this type of lens is necessary, Orlaith says: “It’s all due to a condition called presbyopia, which simply means that the eye is losing its elasticity. It’s not something to worry about as it’s a perfectly natural change in vision, all part of the ageing process and will begin to manifest itself generally after age 40. It becomes obvious when reading with glasses becomes a little more difficult and near and far vision somewhat blurry. This can be easily corrected with a Varilux lens, the strength of which can be determined during a full eye test.”
