Round up from the Circuit Court

Pleaded guilty to SCRd burglaries

A 25-year-old man has pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary in Limerick city on dates between December 17-18 last year.
Mark Ryan, with an address at 43 Lenihan Avenue, appeared before Judge Carroll Moran at Limerick Circuit Court where he pleaded to three counts of trespass and theft at apartments on the South Circular Road on the dates in question, as well as a charge of theft while in the possession of a knife.

Ryan, pleaded guilty to all three burglary charges comprising of thefts and trespass, as well as the possession of a knife.
Sentencing was adjourned until December 15 following an application made by Brian McInerney, counsel for the accused.

Suspended sentence could be invoked

A WOMAN who received a two-year suspended sentence for impersonating a member of An Garda Siochana, and preying on an elderly person, was again before Limerick Circuit Court on a referral to section 99 of the Criminal Justice Act, after she was convicted of a dangerous driving charge and the theft of a sum of petrol while the suspension was in place.
23-year-old Louise Galvin, with an address at Ballinabowl, Churchtown, Mallow, is currently serving a 14 month sentence for offences committed during the period of the two- year suspended sentence.
As per the legislation outlined in the Criminal Justice Act, the State made an application that the suspended sentence be invoked as Ms Galvin had been bound to the peace.
Judge Carroll Moran said it would be “wrong, unjust and unfair to activate the two-year sentence,” as the offences committed during the period of suspension were minor in nature.
However, the Circuit Court Judge said he would adjourn his decision on the application until December 6, pending a review.
