Cash stolen from three city restaurants

SUMS of cash were taken from restaurants in the city over the weekend. On Saturday April 21 a thief broke into a fast food outlet on Denmark Street by forcing open the back door. A quantity of cash was stolen from the till. The following morning, Sunday April 22, two additional restaurants were broken into. The front window of a premises on George’s Quay was smashed, while the rear door of a restaurant on Thomas Street was forced open. Both incidents occurred between 7am and 7.30am and cash floats were taken in both cases.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with all three burglaries.
“I would advise all retailers that cash floats should not be left in tills overnight”, said a garda spokesperson.
“Tills should be emptied and left open to reduce the risk of them being damaged should the premises be broken into and all cash, either notes or coins, should be placed in a safe overnight”.
