THIS week, Limerick FC announced a prestigious friendly with Liverpool FC. The match, which is part of Limerick Senior Soccer’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, will see a Liverpool XI play Limerick FC on Monday May 14 at Jackman Park; Kick-off 7:45.

The Liverpool XI will be managed by Rodolfo Borrell who is now in his 3rd season at Liverpool; Mr Borrell previously held the position at FC Barcelona as Academy Coach in their youth system for 14 seasons. He is looking forward to the opportunity to show The Irish public of the calibre of players in his squad.
Tickets are now on sale through the Club Office (061-324563), Limerick FC Official Shop in Arthurs Quay Limerick (061-323857) and online through Club Website (Ticketmaster).
This week, the Blues face into a massive weekend in their season with two fixtures over the Bank holiday weekend. After succumbing to a surprise defeat to Munster rivals Waterford Utd for the second time this season, Pat Scully’s men now face a must win encounter against Mervue Utd.
The Super Blues put in a lethargic performance and looked at times as if they weren’t up for the fight. They created very few opportunities as their counterparts controlled the contest, much to the dismay of the home supporters. Limerick were unusually poor in possession and were deservedly beaten by a Sean Maguire strike shortly before the interval.
Limerick still lie in second place four points adrift of leaders Longford. Attention must now turn to Mervue who visit Jackman on Friday evening. The Galway side lifted themselves off the bottom of the table after a scintillating 3-0 victory over Finn Harps. Limerick won this fixture 2-1 when they last met seven weeks ago. Despite, Mervue’s upturn in form last week, a backlash should be expected from Scully’s men and their superior quality should pay dividends.
Meanwhile,  on Monday afternoon Limerick will host Cork city in the Munster Senior cup. The premier league side will be seeking revenger for their 3-0 defeat last month, however Limerick’s superior strength in depth should prevail.
Verdict: Two Limerick victories.
