‘Get using pooper scoopers’, warns cllr

DEPUTY Mayor of Clare, Cllr Pascal Fitzgerald, has called on Clare County Council to have signs erected on housing estates and in residential areas in East and South-East Clare, warning dog owners against allowing their dogs to litter. “We have a problem, not just in my area, but throughout the county, of dogs being allowed to run loose by their owners all over the place and littering. “There is also the problem of people who correctly walk their dogs on leads, but who walk away and leave the dog’s litter behind, much to the annoyance of the public at large”.

Emphasising that the message must be that it is an offence for owners to fail to remove dog litter from housing estates, parks and public places, Cllr Fitzgerald, said:
“People who have dogs need to realise that it is an offence for failure to remove dog litter instead of scooping it up.  The council also needs to supply bins for this purpose, especially in residential areas.
“Children can also be at risk, so get using those pooper scoopers”.
