Drug driver banned for six years

“YOU can smoke until you’re blue in the face, but you can’t drive a car while doing so”. was the warning given to a drug driver at Limerick District Court last week after Judge Patrick Clyne fined 24-year-old Gerard Madigan of Hilcroft, €500 and banned him from driving for six years.

Madigan was stopped by Gardai on March 1, 2012 last when cannabis was detected in a urine sample taken at the garda station.

He had previous convictions for careless driving and a similar section 49 Road Traffic Act conviction for driving while under the influence of an intoxicant.

He was fined €500 and banned from driving for six years.
