Intimidation trial opens at Circuit Court

THE TRIAL has opened in Limerick Circuit Court of a 21-year-old woman charged with the alleged intimidation of a mother and daughter who were potential State witnesses in a case last year. Ciara Lynch of Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston is charged with threatening, menacing or putting fear into two women, April and her mother, Alice Collins on May 15, 2011 at Hyde Avenue.

The prosecution alleges that Ms Lynch shouted and made remarks while also making gun-like signal with her hand to Alice and April Collins outside their home on Hyde Avenue. A month earlier, Alice and April Collins had made statements to gardai, in connection with another matter and it is alleged that Ms Lynch was attempting to intimidate the Collins women who were potential witnesses in a case. Ms Lynch has pleaded not guilty to the charges and the trial is expected to last three days.
