Local fashion designers the focus of gala event

AT THE end of this month, a special event is taking place in UL’s Pavilion to celebrate local Limerick fashion design. The night will include an award ceremony with prizes for ‘Best Limerick Designer’ and ‘Best Up And Coming Limerick Deisgner’. Xposé is filming the event and highlights will be broadcast on the popular TV3 show. We take a look at some of the designers taking part…

Caroline Mitchell, knitwear designer
DESIGNED and made in Limerick City, Caroline Mitchell’s knitted designs are timeless and never go out of fashion. In business over ten years Caroline designs for women who love colour and texture and attention to detail.
Beautifully crafted, and featuring hand beaded, crochet and appliqué details, her simple easy to wear shapes flatter any figure.
A graduate of Limerick School of Art and Design, Caroline has developed her brand using luxurious yarns from France and Italy, with Swarovski crystals and glass beads from India.

Aisling Maher, milliner
AISLING Maher creates beautiful hats, headpieces and fashion accessories. Drawing on the influence of her training as an architect, Aisling’s pieces possess a sculptural character which is timeless and breathtaking. Aisling spent six years studying and working as an architect. She has used this design experience along with time spent studying millinery in the London College of Fashion to create an inspiring collection of products.
Linda Wilson, knitwear designer
AFTER completing her degree in fashion design with Limerick School of Art and Design, Linda Wilson studied with The Crafts Council of Ireland in Kilkenny. Sheworked as a design and knitwear tutor before starting her own label in 2000. She produces a range of high quality, co-ordinating knitwear garments, which intermix to create looks for special occasion and day wear.
The style is comfortable yet contemporary, distinctive and individual.

Marion Murphy Cooney
MARION Murphy-Cooney designs with the ethos of classic tailoring with a nostalgic influence: “I design with an individual look for women in mind. I incorporate beautiful colours, texture and prints in my collections. I am not a slave to trends and create classic, collectable, affordable pieces for women to enjoy for many seasons.”
An accomplished corsetiere, she has at least ten years experience in the fashion industry and is a former student of Limerick School of Art and Design. www.marionmurphycooney.com

OTHER designers taking part include Claire Slattery, Sinead Doyle, Linda Wall, Emma Mulcair, Margaret Ryan, Antoinette O’Connell and Clodagh Irwin Owens. Over 20 designers will take part in the event, which promises to deliver a hugely stylish affair for the Christmas calendar.
The event takes place on November 30 and starts at 6.30pm at the Pavilion, UL. It will include a Prosecco reception, four-course meal with fine wines by Cassidy Wines, Christmas gifts for all guests, and live entertainment. Tickets are €75.00 – a perfect way to spend your Christmas Party. Proceeds go to Bóthar.
