Limerick solicitor owes €70 million

A LIMERICK solicitor has topped the Stubbs Gazette of judgements registered against members of the legal profession in 2012 with a total of €70 million registered against him.

Paul O’Brien, a partner in the McMahon O’Brien Tynan law firm was one of 62 solicitors named in the credit agency’s monthly magazines last year.

Mr O’Brien (49) was responsible for six of the top ten judgements against solicitors registered by the State’s asset recovery agency.

His partner in the legal firm, Denis McMahon, was listed as owing Nama €14 million.

According to Stubbs Gazette, judgements against solicitors rose by 635 per cent in the last 12 months.
