THE logo for Limerick National City of Culture 2014 has been unveiled. The new logo, designed by Limerick based Avid Graphic Design, has been created to incorporate the energy of the River Shannon, its notable bridges and the 13th Century King John’s Castle, all of which are iconic images of Limerick city. The brushstroke has a dual purpose, to capitalise the ‘L’ of the city and boast of the creativity and artistry that permeates Limerick. The magenta tones refer to the city’s ceremonial links to the first Duke of Magenta and the Flight of the Wild Geese. Avril Cairns from Avid Graphic Design said: We wanted to strike a balance between the vitality and movement of our artistic and sporting traditions and the industrial, urbane components of Limerick. She explained that the logo is accompanied by a modern, clear and distinctive font”
