A GROUP of volunteers will drive two Model T trucks across all of Ireland over the coming week in aid of the Drive to Survive fund. The trucks are owned by charity founder Dan Gallahue, whose late father John was a former county councillor and died two years ago from cancer.
The Drive to Survive will set off from Anglesboro on Friday August 9, passing through 26 counties before finishing in Ballylanders on Thursday August 15. The route will pass through County Limerick on Saturday, taking in Glin, Loughill, Foynes, Askeaton, Kildimo, Mungret and Limerick city.
Drive to Survive was established last by a group of 30 local Munster volunteers to honour the memory and the lifetime achievement of John Gallahue, who in his role as a county councillor strived diligently to bring prosperity to the area. It was his greatest wish to establish a national charity that would travel through Ireland to raise funds for cancer care. The Drive to Survive will honour his memory and see his wish become a reality.
The week-long expedition will encompass more than 1,000 miles, with volunteers signed up right across Ireland. People are also encouraged to stage their own events in aid of Drive to Survive, with all contributions welcome.
