WITH an expectant capacity crowd awaiting the clash of Munster and Perpignan, Thomond Park one again fell silent in respect. This time not for a rugby star taking a place kick at goal, but an icon of the world, Nelson Mandela as his memory was honored with a tribute minute of silence.

But true to the form of a rugby community united irrespective of colour, race or creed, Madiba, instead was honoured with rapturous applause from the Irish and French fans.

The 95- year old died last Thursday at his home and is best know for the unification of his country through rugby.

Today, his integrity, character and unyielding belief in the human spirit was fittingly honoured and similarly so at grounds and venues around the world.
