Limerick lights set to shine bright on New Year’s Eve

AS Limerick heralds the dawn of its year as City of Culture, preparations are well underway for tomorrow’s impressive New Year’s Eve events.

The celebrations will include a NYE Pageant, NYE Sky and NYE Music will take place right across Limerick City from midday tomorrow (Tuesday 31) and will set the tone for 2014, the year of the first ever National City of Culture.

In the build up to an exciting and explosive start for Limerick as City of Culture, CEO for City of Culture, Patricia Ryan has said, “There is such a fantastic buzz around the City. New Year’s Eve will be the kick-off for what is set to be an incredible year for Limerick as the first ever National City of Culture.”

In anticipation for the party, NYE organisers have issued some guidelines for those attending this outdoor event.

Although weather is set to improve, organisers are advising everyone to dress appropriately for Irish weather conditions!

Organisers would also like to remind all those travelling or attending to give yourself plenty of time and to please note the traffic restrictions that are in place and the starting times for each of the events.

NYE Pageant will commence from 5:30pm, NYE Sky will light up the night sky from with NYE Music kicks off at 8:30pm.

There will be road closures in operation on the lead up to the festival please take note of the following:
Merchants Quay will be closed to parking from 8am Monday 30th December until New Year’s Day (Wednesday) at 9am, when restrictions will be lifted.

There will be restricted road access from 5.30pm throughout the city until 9pm on New Year’s Eve, Gardai will be at various points throughout the City advising on accessible / inaccessible areas and any other traffic information on the day.

The following areas will be pedestrianised from 7pm – 9pm on New Year’s Eve to facilitate NYE Sky: Clancy Strand, Sarsfield Bridge and Thomond Bridge.

And as always, organisers urge people to use public transport or car pool where possible to help reduce road congestions and if you must bring your car, there is an over-night Q Park in Harvey’s Quay.

This is set to be the best New Year’s Eve Limerick will have possibly ever seen, don’t miss out.
