Further arrests over robbery of casino winner

GARDAI at Roxboro investigating the the robbery and assault of a casino patron winner that occured on the M20 near Dooradoyle in the early hours of Wednesday morning, have this Thursday evening, arrested another man (mid 20s) and woman (early 20s) in connection with the incident.

The man is being detained at Henry Street Garda station and the woman is being detained at Roxboro Road garda station both under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984

Last night, Gardai at both stations were questioning three other people over the alleged assault and robbery of a man who emerged from a casino having won a substantial amount of money.

The male victim, in his 30s emerged from the casino in the city and was driving home towards Dooradoyle shortly after 1:30am when his car was rammed, the culprits assaulted him and subsequently robbed him at knifepoint. He received a number of injuries.

Detectives led an investigation which was launched once the male victim sought assistance from the emergency services immediately after the ramming and two men (25 and 31) and two women (28 and 31) were arrested in a follow up operation.

The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

One woman was released without charge but the the two men are still being questioned in Roxboro Garda station while the second woman is assisting Gardai in Henry St.

A file is being prepared for the director of public prosecutions.
