THEATRE at the Savoy gains momentum as this intelligent, attractive series gains footfall and some funding. General manager of PayDay Productions, Colm O’Brien speaks of a new schedule, two lunchtime shows for the last Thursday and Friday in each month and now two teatime shows for 6pm.

“We have Cora Fenton, actress and John Sheehy, writer and director, of Callback Theatre for this Thursday 30 and Friday 31,” is the outline. “There are two plays, ‘Arsehammers’ which is a pun on Alzheimer’s and ‘Bonfire Night’, each written by Claire Dowie.

“These take place back to back for the 1pm and 6pm slots at the Savoy. No, we haven’t seen them but we know Callback and know their work will fit”.

Note the slight price increase to €12 for soup and a sandwich at the lunchtime show; €12 for wine and a nibble at teatime and there’s a tapas menu for €5. Book at limericktheatre.com for any remaining seat – and good luck to you.

Or push offsite on the night of Friday January 31 for the 8pm play at 69 O’Connell Street that is organised by PayDay.

“We got some funding from Limerick Arts Encounter specific to arts in the community and feel that ‘Making Lemonade’ is ideal, getting four star reviews through the country. It is written, played by and directed by Sylvia Bleatley who had a directing mentorship with Fishamble: the New Play Company.

“We’ve seen this work and think it’s right for arts in the community – too gritty for the Savoy”.

Set in Dublin, the storyline of crime and gun culture will resonate. An hour long, one woman show by Twisted Peasant Productions, book through www.limetreetheatre.ie for 69 O’Connell Street, Friday 31, 8pm.
