THE people of Limerick’s St Mary’s Park and anyone affected by the recent flooding will not be “defeated” according to President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, and they should get all the assistance they need.

During his visit to Limerick this Monday, President Higgins said that it was “sad to see the devastation experienced by people living here all their lives”, as he urged that promises and commitments are followed through on by those who made them to the stricken residents.

Speaking to media after he addressed the crowds gathered at Kings Island Community Centre which has been one of the central hubs providing support, President Higgins said that it “was particularly sad to see places where significant progress had been made in giving people a lift, to have to face this set back.

Honouring the community spirit and extraordinary work done by everyone, President Higgins said that “resilience is everywhere as those most affected, with tears in their eyes, are not going to be defeated by this and we should assist them in every way possible”.
