A TEENAGER driving a quad bike was killed in a road crash near Oola on Tuesday afternoon.

Kenneth Ryan (17) from Moymore, Pallasgreen collided with a tractor and hedge-cutting machinery on a sharp bend at Cluggane Cross, about three miles from Oola on the Doon road at approximately 1.45pm on Tuesday, July 22.

The driver of the tractor escaped uninjured.

Kenneth, who according to Garda sources was not wearing a helmet, sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene.

Kenneth is survived by his parents Tommy and Sara, brothers David, Andrew and Craig, and a wide circle of family and friends.

He will repose at Ryan’s funeral home in Pallasgreen this Thursday, July 24 from 6pm, with removal to Nicker Church at 8pm.

The funeral mass will take place on Friday, July 25 at 11.30am followed by burial in St Columba’s Cemetery.

It is believed that a number of Kenneth’s friends were travelling in a car and witnessed the collision; gardaí say they did not have any part in the accident.

Gardaí also revealed that one of Kenneth’s uncles is a fireman with Limerick County Fire Service and was dispatched to the scene, where he realised that the victim was his nephew.

The road was temporarily closed on Tuesday afternoon as Garda forensic collision investigators and the scenes of crime unit carried out a technical examination of the crash site.

Following the tragic accident, gardaí have advised people not to drive quad bikes on public roads as they do not have adequate safety features.

Gardaí in Bruff are investigating the incident.
