Rail line closed following discovery of body

RAIL commuters traveling in and out of Dublin’s Heuston Station will experience delays and disruptions to services on the main rail line following the tragic discovery of a body on the track between Newbridge and Sallins late on Wednesday night.

Irish Rail are advising commuters of the major disruption expected to rail services throughout the majority of this Thursday.

Gardai have said that the circumstances surrounding the fatality have not yet been determined but they have asked that the line be closed to allow them carry out a full investigation.

It is understood that the discovery was made after 11pm by a driver of a non-passenger train who saw the body on the line.

Irish Rail says the line is not expected to reopen until at least after the morning peak.

Commuter services will operate between Sallins and Heuston only and there will be no commuter services between Portlaoise and Sallins.

Intercity services from Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Westport will terminate at Kildare with road transfers to and from Heuston.
