Pedestrian killed following collision in County Limerick

A 44-year-old pedestrian has been killed following a road traffic collision in the early hours of this Tuesday morning in the County Limerick village of Hospital.

Shortly after 2am, the man was struck by a car as he crossed the road on Main Street in Hospital

Emergency services including gardaí, ambulance and Limerick County Fire Service were called to the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead as a result of the collision and the injuries caused.

The remains of the 44-year-old were removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem is to take place

Diversions are currently in place at the scene of the accident as the road is closed pending a garda forensic examination.

Motorists travelling from Limerick to Cork are advised to turn right at the post office on the Knockainey Road, while those travelling from Cork must divert at Moore’s shop in Hospital and take the Bruff Road.
