Lynch leaves Limerick FC for Hamilton

Limerick FC v Cork City - SSE Airtricity League Premier DivisionAFTER joining Limerick FC in July, midfielder Lee J Lynch has signed for Scottish Premiership club Hamilton Academical.

The 22-year-old, who has stints in England and Spain to his name, was with Sligo Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic prior to being signed by Martin Russell for the Super Blues. That move saw Lynch return to his native city, having cut his footballing teeth with Regional United.

He made 12 appearances for Limerick FC in the closing weeks of the 2014 season, scoring one goal and quickly establishing himself as a fans’ favourite.

While he spoke about playing for his hometown club in glowing terms, Lynch also admitted that the temptation of a move to Britain was too difficult to turn down.

He said: “I just want to thank everyone involved at the club, especially Pat O’Sullivan and Martin Russell. I know they worked really hard on making my move from Pat’s to Limerick happen in the summer and the last three months at Limerick have been very enjoyable. It’s been great being able to play for my hometown club where the fans and everyone involved made me feel so welcome.

“I am looking forward to this move. On a personal note it’s something I have always been working towards and the way Martin encourages his teams to play and gives his players the freedom to express themselves has really helped in making this move happen for me.

“Pat was very honest with me when I arrived here, he always told me if a move like this came around he wouldn’t stand in my way, and true to his word he was very supportive and encouraging over the last few days.”

Goalkeeper Barry Ryan also appears to be on his way out of the club after tweeting on Wednesday night: “Well thats me done with limerick, Like to thank @eddiehickey3 especially and all the lads I met over the yrs.”
