ONE of Bart Simpson’s most famous one-liners has always been ‘don’t have a cow!’

However, it would now appear that co-creator of the world’s most popular animated TV show, Sam Simon, would actually prefer to have a bull!

This week Limerick animal rights activist John Carmody called on the people of Limerick and Ireland to help save the life of a ‘gay bull’ destined for slaughter because he had shown no interest in cows and has a sexual preference for other bulls.

Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN), founded by Mr Carmody, quickly responded to plans to destroy Benjy, a pedigree Charolais bull, purchased for purposes of breeding by a farmer in County Mayo.

ARAN teamed up with one of the UK’s biggest online gay magazines THEGAYUK, and the Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norwich, to raise £5,000 to save Benjy. This Tuesday, the Limerick animal rights campaigner was celebrating the news that Hollywood producer Sam Simon had stepped in to pay the initial £5,000 needed to save Benjy.

The Simpsons’ co-creator heard of Benjy’s plight through PETA who are also supporting the rescue. The money put up by Simon will now add to the already £4,000 raised online by donors, supporters and members of the public.

“The response from around the worldwide has being so very encouraging, but to now hear that Sam Simon, co-creator of the world’s most popular animated sitcom is stepping in, is just icing on the already well baked cake,” says ARAN’s John Carmody.26102014003-003

“What could be better than to present Benjy with a Christmas gift that will literally last a lifetime, by giving him a one way ticket to freedom.”
