Police identify suspect in garda shooting

NEW Orleans police have issued an arrest warrant for one of the suspects in the shooting of Limerick Garda Brian Hanrahan last week.

The NOPD Fifth District Detectives have identified 40-year-old Melvin Galle Jr as a suspect in the attempted murder and armed robbery of Newcastle West-based Garda Hanrahan, and are seeking the local public’s assistance in locating the second suspect.

The suspect is an African-American male in his late 30s or early 40s.

New Orleans police are offering a $2,500 reward for information.

Meanwhile, police departments in the USA and the New Orleans Irish community have collected some $5,000 to assist the Hanrahan family with medical and travel expenses.
