LIMERICK venue Dolan’s won the IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Award at the annual IMRO event held in Dublin on Tuesday. Limerick’s University Concert Hall won the Best Munster Venue award.
The awards are presented annually in recognition of music venues that provide the very highest standards in live music entertainment.
Neil Dolan of Dolan’s Bar and Warehouse told Limerick Post that the award came as an unexpected surprise. “We didn’t think we were going to win.”
Dolan’s had won the Munster Venue award before and was awarded a Hot Press Achievement award at this time last year.
Neil puts this year’s unprecedented achievement to the great staff, family atmosphere and regular innovations that the venue undertakes.
“We have had a good response to our new sound system and the recent renovations from visiting artists and our customers.”
UCH scooped the Munster Venue of the Year award, making it a clean sweep for the Limerick venues. General manager Sinead Hope stated, “We are delighted, and very proud, to be part of Limerick’s great success, with Dolan’s, at this year’s IMRO awards – a Munster and All Ireland win if you like!”
Sinead added that UCH’s vibrant music programme in 2014 had many highlights.
“James Vincent McMorrow was a sell out at the start of the year, Van Morrison as part of the Limerick Jazz Festival was hugely exciting – and was one of the fastest selling concerts of all time for UCH.”
