Limerick diesel thefts

Fuel-ThiefTWO hundred and fifty litres of diesel were stolen from three trucks in Foynes on one night last weekend. Garda Chief Superintendent David Sheahan also told council members at this Monday’s Joint Policing Committee meeting that a man was stopped at a Garda checkpoint recently carrying three large drums and siphoning equipment. Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan asked if any illicit wash diesel had made it across the border into the city and county. “I’ve heard cases where engines have been wrecked and cars totally destroyed because of illicit fuel,” he said. Chief Supt Sheahan told him that to date there had only been one case of illicit diesel being sold locally.
