Equality campaigners warn against complacency

imgres VOTER complacency is the enemy of the campaign to provide civil marriage to same sex couples, according to a spokesperson for Yes Equality Limerick, which is working to secure a yes vote in the upcoming marriage referendum on May 22.

Yes Equality Limerick coordinator Dave Cuddihy told the Limerick Post that one of the organisation’s key objectives is to get people to the polling stations on referendum day.

“The message we are trying to get out to Limerick voters is that we shouldn’t be complacent. From what we see there is a lot of support for a yes vote around Limerick, but we need to actually get people out to vote.

“A lot of people say ‘It’s definitely going to go through’, but complacency is the enemy of this campaign. If nobody goes out to vote then we will have a failed referendum,” Mr Cuddihy warned.

Yes Equality Limerick will be holding a number of events between now and May 22, including a cabaret night in Dolans on April 26.

The organisation is currently seeking volunteers to conduct canvassing in Limerick in the run up to the campaign.
