DURING last year’s local elections, wheelchair-bound voters in rural parts of County Limerick were slowed down in their attempt to reach the polls due to a lack of access at polling stations. Fianna Fail councillor for Adare-Rathkeale municipal district, Richard O’Donoghue, claimed that some elderly people were breathless and stressed by the time they cast their vote last May. “In the last election there was no wheelchair access in Ballyagran or in Granagh. This May there will be temporary access set up in Ballyagran at the front door so people can travel the shortest distance to cast their democratic vote,” he declared.
