HAVING celebrated an exciting 50th anniversary year, most notably with the commission of oratorio ‘spirestone’ by Mary Coll and Fiona Linnane, Limerick Choral Union (LCU) returns to University Concert Hall this Saturday 5.

At 8pm their annual Winter concert will open out, giving Handel’s ‘Messiah’ the full works with professional soloists leading soprano, alto, tenor and bass harmonies for this sung mass.

An orchestra of 26 musicians will do justice to the 134 singers on stage. The soloists are Jean Wallace, alto Martha Bredin, tenor Patrick Hyland and bass voice, John Molloy. Malcolm Green is musical director of this two+ hour event.

Their delivery of Handel’s great opus is a bi-annual commitment thanks to public demand. Lorraine McMahon, PRO and singer, is encouraging: “‘Messiah’ is an awe inspiring oratorio which is regularly performed by LCU. We propel the work forward with great emotional impact and uplifting messages – a ‘must’ for all and a musical rite of the Christmas season!”
