On the Nail bangs for new year

LITERARY minded folk and anyone with a tale to tell is welcome to Tuesday 12’s first ‘On the Nail’ of 2016/ Assemble at the usual haunt, The Locke Bar on George’s Quay.

This monthly get-together embraces poetry and occasional prose writers/ readers who present their own work on a platform for musicians, writers, storytellers and of course, poets.

Next week’s two guests are Jennifer Matthews and Louis Mulcahy.

Jennifer Matthews writes poetry and is editor of Long Story, Short Journal. Her poetry has been published in, or is forthcoming from The Stinging Fly, Mslexia, The Pickled Body, Burning Bush 2, Abridged, Revival, The Irish Examiner and Cork Literary Review.

In 2015 she was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series. Rootless, a chapbook of her poetry, was published by Smithereens Press.

Lous Mulcahy is an honorary doctorate who has served as chairman of the Crafts Council of Ireland and of Samhlaíocht Chiarraí (Kerry Arts). He was a member of the Government Task Force on Small Business.

Much published, in 2013 he shared a reading with Paul Muldoon at Féile na Bealtaine. His full collection in Irish, Dhá Chlog ag Bualadh, was published by An Sagart Publishing in 2012 and his first full collection in English, The Clogher Quartet, Book One, by An Sagart in March 2014.

The Clogher Quartet, Book Two, was launched at Listowel Writers’ Week 2015.

As usual, organiser Dominic Taylor welcomes all comers to The Loft Venue upstairs to George’s Quay and there is an open table for the sale of CDs, EPs, chap-books, anthologies and so on each month.

Note that the first Tuesday of each month is the usual On the Nail date.
