Spring heralds change for Irish Chamber Orchestra

LOOKING ahead to the Spring schedule released by Irish Chamber Orchestra, Limerick dates at University Concert Hall to mark in your diary are Thursday February 11 and Tuesday March 15. Into the month of April next for Thursday 7’s date at St Mary’s Cathedral.

May is dedicated to touring with ‘The Magic of the Movies’ to smaller venues countrywide, from Sligo to Waterford.

Other news concerns the ICO’s move in Dublin from the RDS to the Round Room in the Mansion House, and Dublin concerts will begin earlier in this central venue, at 7.30pm.

Long term conductor and chief artistic partner Gábor Takács-Nagy leads in the season’s programme on Wednesday February 10 in Dublin and Thursday 11 at UCH for 8pm.

He will introduce ‘Death and The Maiden’, “a programme featuring liturgical music of astounding beauty by Pergolesi, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert sung by soprano Ailish Tynan,” according to Charlotte Eglington of the ICO.

All look ahead to the April date of Thursday 7 in St Mary’s Cathedral. We hear that the orchestra is dedicating its three concerts (pencil in Friday April 8 at glór, Ennis) to the 1916 centenary celebrations. Homage is by way of works by Irish composers Kinsella and Sir Arnold Bax with Des Keogh “presenting this intimate and nostalgic pot-pourri of music, songs and poetry featuring special guests”.
