Gardai at Mayorstone are now investigating the serious assault on Pa Healy Road last Saturday night, January 23 where rocks were thrown at a moving car and thus sparking the incident.

Sgt Justin McCarthy from the Crime Prevention Office at Henry Street explains that “this assault arose from rocks being thrown at a car as it drove along Pa Healy Road at 9.20pm on Saturday night. The motorist, a 35-year-old man, stopped the car and saw it had been damaged.

“He approached a number of youths whom he had seen throwing the rocks. As he did so he was confronted by the youths one of whom pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the back.

“The youths ran off along Pa Healy Road and into Lee Estate.

“Fortunately the victim only suffered minor injury.

Sgt McCarthy has described this as “a cowardly crime against an innocent motorist” and Gardai are appealing for information so as to identify the culprits concerned.
