Man dies in county #Limerick hedge-cutting accident

 AN INVESTIGATION is underway in County Limerick after a man died while cutting hedges this Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Athea when it is understood that the man was electrocuted when the machinery he was operating came into contact with electrical power cables.

Investigations are underway at the scene and the area has been cordoned off while the remains of the man are still at the scene.

It is also understood that the man was a member of the travelling community and his remains will be brought to the University Hospital later where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardai in Newcastle West who are in charge of the scene say that this appears to be a tragic accident and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has confirmed that they are aware of the incident but have yet to be asked to conduct a formal investigation.
