SANKHARA is a newly formed duo featuring Izumi Kimura on piano and Joe O’Callaghan on guitar. They play new music written by Joe, who is a longtime pillar of Limerick Jazz Soc and regular composer. Dolan’s Upstairs is the venue for Wednesday April 6.

Doors open 8.30pm for ”influences from contemporary classical to jazz and rock music. This duo is an exciting addition to the Irish creative music scene”- John Daly of Limerick Jazz.

A teacher with Peter Dee Academy of Music in Limerick, Joe has played with musicians of the calibre of Louis Stewart, the Buckleys, Paul Williamson and Linley Hamilton.

Currently, he has his own acoustic quartet Freeplay, and has formed a new trio with Derek Whyte (bass) and Ben Wanders (drums).

Joe also works as a tutor for the Limerick Jazz Workshop which teaches adults and teenagers the fundamentals and holds student concerts regularly.

An experienced solo artist, Izumi is a teacher in Dublin’s Newpark College, specialising in Ear Training and Harmony. Future concerts in her career – in which she has recorded prodigiously – are at Theatre de Chelles in France and Dublin’s Smock Alley.
