GARDAI in Limerick are investigating a Saturday morning attack on an elderly nun who was walking through the People’s Park on a visit to a relative last weekend.
The attack saw a man approach the nun, who is in her 70s, from behind and push her to the ground.
Helpless, the attacker then stole the nun’s handbag and made off through the park.
Gardai later recovered the handbag, however the money that was contained inside was not found.
A man in his 20s was later arrested following a review of CCTV footage by Gardai.
The elderly nun, who was mainly uninjured, was treated for shock and the distress caused by the incident.
