NO FEE GPO WITNESS HIS CENTRE MX1SHANNON HERITAGE was this week behind one of the most important commemorative  installations for the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

With events across the country to commemorate the Easter Rising, Taoiseach Enda Kenny was in the GPO on Dublin’s O’Connell Street on Good Friday morning to officially open the GPO ‘Witness History’ visitor centre.

Created by An Post and managed by Shannon Heritage, the €10 million GPO ‘Witness History’ is a permanent, immersive, interactive visitor attraction bringing history to life though technology, video, sound and authentic artefacts.

Shannon Group Chairman Rose Hynes said that as the biggest operator of visitor attractions in Ireland, Shannon Heritage was delighted to add the GPO Witness History visitor centre to its extensive portfolio.

“This visitor centre, which is a central component of the Government’s 1916 commemorations, will ensure that the history of the 1916 Rising is easily available now and to future generations in this iconic building.”

The visitor’s centre’s special effects, soundscapes and heartfelt stories of real people in extraordinary circumstances aims to captivate all age-groups and nationalities.

Aline FitzGerald, the Shannon Heritage appointed General Manager of the GPO attraction said she was pleased with the level of interest shown to date.

“Advance bookings from national and international visitors are already very strong, including school groups, tour companies, independent travelers and family groups of all ages”.

Shannon Heritage chief executive John Ruddle said they were very proud to manage the Witness History exhibition on behalf of An Post.

“Shannon Heritage is an Irish company with a strong tradition of operating excellent visitor attractions across Ireland”, he added.
