HEAD for the latest illustrated exploration of music in Ireland by Mary Immaculate College lecturer Dr Michael Murphy, a musician himself and musicologist, on Tuesday April 5 at 7pm.

Taking place at Lime Tree Theatre, this will be a third in a series of four, and begs the question: ‘Is there a little room for chamber music in your life?’ “Chamber music is perhaps the most misunderstood genre of classical music,” suggests this double-bass player. “However, Ireland has an impressive record in supporting this art form.

“In the Mid-West region alone one can point to the Limerick Music Association, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Killaloe Chamber Music Festival, and the Castleconnell Concert Series”.

Given its increasing prominence in Irish concert venues and educational settings, Michael Murphy explores the intimacy and diversity of the chamber music repertoire. €8 ticket for April 5.
