HOW many female acts are headlining at festivals around the country? Not enough for some, among them Emma Langford, a Caherdavin woman and musician/ singer/ songwriter who looks for and works towards the big picture.

On Thursday June 16 she introduces the first performance-based Limerick Lady Festival (LLF) at the Milk Market, coinciding with the Market’s #urbanfest of artisan foods and craft beer.

Everybody is welcome the evening long, 6pm to 11pm at this showcase of “the diversity of female artistry in our small island and beyond”.

Langford has some big hitters onside, with Ann Blake of The Brad Pitt Orchestra as compere to singers, instrumentalists, poets, the band Changing Trains, folk musician Tracy Bruen, Limerick writers The Stanzas, hip-hop dancer Rachel Sheil and chanteuse, recording artist and songwriter, Kathleen Turner.

“Work started months and months ago online and on Twitter as I wanted to see if there was a platform for a female headline act – not many festivals have them,” the event organiser told Limerick Post.

Looking to pull the performance dynamic from the busy East coast in Summer, she notes that “here we are the gateway to the Wild Atlantic Away. A lot of tourists are coming here and people from other countries will see LLF. I wrote off around the country and managed to get in a lot of great artists”.

Visual artist “Ruth Crean of The Stormy Teacup has been involved from day one and Emma Harper from Harper’s Coffee House in the Milk Market”.

Langford is especially excited about the alt-pop duo Hvmmngbyrd, sure to shake up this fast moving festival (pay in what you can).

Not forgetting other appetites. Milk Market is artisan food orientated so grab a €15 ticket to an “evening of sampling a fantastic range of street-food and local craft beers”.

On June 16, from 6pm.
