The army bomb disposal unit were called to Limerick this evening.

THE Army bomb disposal unit is currently dealing with a suspect device that was found at the rear of an unoccupied house in County Limerick, this Wednesday morning.

After the alert was raised, Gardai attended the scene in Rathkeale and evacuated a number of premises and homes in the west Limerick town, it is understood.

Members of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team from Collins barracks were called to Rathkeale to inspect and deal with the device.

The Main St in Rathkeale is closed to facilitate the army led operation between Castlematrix and the fire station as a result of the discovery.

This was the second time in as many days that the EOD unit was in Limerick to deal with an explosive device.

On Tuesday morning, the specialised unit carried out a controlled explosion on an undetonated grenade found in Pennywell.
