Plans to keep Shannon safe from Estuary floods

A REPORT on the strength of the embankment that stands between Shannon town and the Shannon Estuary is expected to be completed in three months.

Local councillors have been told that a meeting has taken place with the Office of Public Works who have promised to bring back a report by the end of the first quarter of 2018.

The flood defences took a hammering from the terrible weather in 2014 and airport property was flooded at the time. A possible solution to the flooding threat lies in the construction of new flood defence walls for the low-lying town.

Other measures under consideration include diverting the water flow to a natural storage area and the development of new online and offline storage areas.
