The tragic death of a young Limerick student has left medics baffled and her grieving family without an explanation.
20-year old Denisse Kyle Dasco from Raheen died after being brought to hospital with severe back pain on April 21 2017. The UCC student was in such pain that a friend called an ambulance and she was admitted to hospital.
At an inquest hearing last week, the Cork Coroner’s court heard that doctors investigated whether Ms Dasco, who was otherwise fit and healthy and taking no medication, had deep vein thrombosis following a flight to Spain but ruled this out.
The court heard that doctors were working under the assumption that the she had hurt her back in the course of her waitressing job the previous night.
After being put to bed with pain medication to await further tests, Ms Dasco’s condition deteriorated and she suffered an abrupt cardiac arrest and was never revived despite repeated attempts by the medical team.
Pathologist, DR Margaret Bolster said she was unable to determine the cause of death. An open verdict was recorded and coroner Phillip Comyn extended his condolences to the family.
Ms Dasco is survived by her parents, Mary and Carlos Dasco, sister Deborah and brother Carl.
