Record Ireland’s best cover version?

A CASH prize of €1500 and a slot at Indiependence Music Festival is up for grabs for the winner of Le Crunch Apple of My Eye Contest. The search for the nation’s best cover version is up and running in cooperation with JOE.ie. Promising Irish musicians have entered this competition since its inception in 2013, Stephanie Rainey, Hvmmingbird and Brave Giant among them.
All music lovers have to do is choose and record their favourite cover version and send it to JOE.ie, where a panel of industry judges will select a Top Ten from all entrants. The judges for this year’s competition are Jess Kavanagh from BARQ, rising singer songwriter Jack O’Rourke and JOEshow presenter, Paddy McKenna.
Record your favourite cover version (on video or MP3) and to enter the competition through joe.ie Closing date is this Monday February 19.

Take drum lessons

DRUM sessions in Congolese Rhumba are happening every Friday at CB1 Gallery on O’Connell Street. The open lessons are hosted by Elikya; Eric Kalombo will share the process and structure of learning he was taught in his native Kinshasa, Congo DRC. Congolese Rhumba and traditional music lays at the foundation of African music. The benefits of learning this style benefit musicians playing Trad to Jazz, Metal to Hip Hop and beyond, say the organisers. 3-5pm.

Hear The Fall

Mark E. Smith

THE uncompromising and legendary Mark E Smith will be celebrated with a night of music from The Fall on Friday 16. This free event will deliver four hours of non-stop Fall and Mark E Smith classics with DJ Professor Eoin Devereux (Manchester Night) on the decks.
“The many versions of The Fall under Smith’s guidance produced some of the most important albums ever made including ‘Hex Enduction Hour’, ‘The Infotainment Scan’ and ‘Live At The Witchtrials’.” A must for indie fans – REBELLIOUS JUKEBOX – A Night To Remember Mark E Smith (1957-2018) at Kasbah Social Club. See Mountain!

IFI@Belltable screenings continue this week with Mountain. This documentary is a soaring spectacular cinematic journey into sound and nature. Narrated by Willem Dafoe, the film was created originallly as a live concert experience, bringing together orchestral music and an exploration of man’s fascination with the world’s highest peaks. Directed by Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa) with music from the Australian Chamber Orchestra,
